Fungi as Packaging Material
Imagine ordering some sort of electronic device, like a computer. Computers are packaged using foam packaging, which conforms snugly to the computer and fills voids around it. That foam packaging is what you’re expecting when you open the box. Instead, you see something sort of spongy and brownish…and smells like fungi? Yep, it’s mushrooms! Or at least, it used to be mushrooms. While there are certain kinds of foam packaging that are made to be eco-friendly, mushroom packaging takes eco-friendly to a whole new level.
