Packaging Review Saves Global Company over $6 Million
Sometimes, really small, simple changes can make a huge impact. That’s exactly what happened when networking giant, Cisco, decided to review their packaging process.
According to their recent blog post, the company decided to form an employee-led initiative dubbed “Pack it Green”. Together, they set out to make the company produce less solid waste, yet maintain the effectiveness of their packaging.
By making simple changes like packing more items into one box, the company hit and exceeded their goal. According to their blog post:
“In fiscal year 2014* we eliminated 1.9 million pounds of material and the equivalent of 3.1 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions through 30 Pack It Green projects. These included bulk-packed products, integrated product shipments, the reuse of packaging materials, and expanding opportunities for customers to “opt out” of physically delivered products.”
What can we learn from Cisco’s experiment? No matter what size your company is, you can benefit from a simple packaging review. You might think your process is streamlined, but there are a lot of things that our trained packaging experts can spot that you might overlook. There are so many aspects to consider – materials, box size, weight, and even how experienced your packers are can affect your use of materials and, ultimately, your bottom line.
